A project by Winnie Claessens
In 1898, Dirk Barend Kagenaar, instrumentalist of the Utrecht University Physiological Laboratory, developed a headline for phonetic research, according to a design by the phoneticist Hendrik Zwaardemaker. The contemporary interpretation is an aluminum band that is twisted around and touches the chin and upper lip. By recording the movements there are signs and an unintentional choreography appears.
