Ario ensures road safety through an adaptive detection system

Ario strives for more safety behind the steering wheel with a monitoring system that detects sleep and unattentive driving. 34,4% of all road incidents are caused by drowsiness. It's Ario's mission to reduce that number to zero.

The Ario system helps truckers and bus drivers stay safe by measuring micro-adjustments that are necessary to keep the vehicle driving straight. Whenever the system notices a change in pattern or a lack of movement, it alerts the driver and suggests to take a rest. After years of working on the system in their spare time, founders Thomas Dietvorst and Jelle Van Winckel now take their product to the market. The system already is available at Van Hool and Volvo, which results in about a hundred active Ario systems in busses and lorries today.

With the web connectivity moving closer to ubiquity fast, the next big thing is connecting hardware to the web. The buzzword is 'internet of things', but what Ario delivers goes way further then merely putting an internet connection in a truck. Through the intelligent monitoring of driver behaviour, they deliver instant added value. At the same time Ario generates data that provides a foundation for future innovation in road safety. Thomas Dietvorst and Jelle Van Winckel invested a lot of time and funds in the development of their system. Now that it’s finally out on the market and available for implementation in vehicles, Ario is ready to further develop the system and scale production.

The CoFoundry believes in Ario’s mission and sees the reliability of the system as proof that this is the most effective way to ensure safety in road vehicles. We funded Ario to help scale the go-to-market and find more effective ways to speed the production proces.

Probably more important then money is the network of technology companies we have been able to surround Ario with. This has resulted in close collaboration and knowledge sharing with Suivo, a product that was developed at Geosolutions, a company that is part of The Cronos Group.

Intigriti ensures online security through a crowd sourced platform for computer experts. The so called crowd security platform bundles specialists that can legally test the defenses of enlisted companies through hacking.

Where most security companies test the digital defenses of clients intensively through short periods of time, Intigriti simulates the real unpredictable nature of hackers. With a pay-per-bug bounty system specialists that find a security flaw get rewarded when they find a crack in the system. In that way, Intigriti offers a win-win scenario for both sides of the spectrum. The ‘hackers’ get paid for doing what they love, while companies know what to enhance about their security.

Currently the Intigriti platform is working with a selected group of hackers that can work on a small database of clients. Momentarily, Intigriti focusses on finding more experts to grow the platform.

Interimbureau voor hackers

Belgische bedrijven kunnen voortaan hackers inhuren via een soort 'interimbureau'. Eerlijke hackers die een 'bug' in de beveiliging vinden, kunnen tot 2.500 euro verdienen. Dit is de toekomst, zeggen experts. Geen enkele onderneming is immers nog veilig voor digitale bedreigingen. De Far West had zijn 'bounty hunters', het internet heeft zijn 'bug hunters'.

A Modern JukeBox For Kids

The idea to create Jooki came from Theo's youngest daughter. At the age of 3, she asked him to play a song on his smartphone, and kept coming back to hear the same song. Today's music is digital and kids lost the ability to independently explore music. To solve this gap, MuuseLabs was created in 2015. Jooki got funding via a Kickstarter campaign in August 2016. At the end of 2016 two Brussel-based funds (ST'ART and Brustart) joined as investors. The CoFoundry provided additional funds in August 2017 to prepare the company for its commercial launch in stores in December 2017.

NephroFlow optimizes the medical process and follow-up surrounding dialysis. Through a mobile application and desktop dashboard the company supports medical staff in the daily routine through the dialysis rooms.

The application strives to reduce the error margin during the treatment. Meanwhile it improves communication between medical staff, offers a detailed and faster workflow for every stage of the treatment and measures quality of the process.

The NephroFlow software was developed in close collaboration with nephrologists and dialysis personnel. The company’s first project was in the dialysis department at AZ Sint-Lucas in Ghent, that was closely involved with the creation of the tool.

ONAK’s case on wheels unfolds to a very capable canoe in less than 10 minutes. Thanks to important material innovations, it is suited for urban adventures as well as the most sublime and wild outdoors.

The ONAK team successfully launched their foldable canoe with a Kickstarter campaign in the summer of 2016 with over 200 canoes sold in one month and generating € 235 230 in pre-sales. After working on their dream for years, Otto and Thomas were ready to hit the market with their unique product. Crowdfunding this project seemed like the next logical step for a global launch. Introducing a relatively high priced product (in crowdfunding terms) on such a scale requires a professional marketing campaign and they would need prototype products for demonstration purposes.

The CoFoundry took on the challenge to be the first investor in ONAK in order to fund the prototype development and Kickstarter Campaign.

Adding Bert Van Wassenhove as a seasoned marketing professional to the team as 'Entrepreneur in Residence' provided a pivotal element in running a marketing campaign that resulted in what was probably the most successful Kickstarter campaign to date in Belgium.

Vrijdag begonnen ze met de crowdfunding voor hun product en onze reporter deed de test. Een kwartier geleden was die plastieken kano nog een doos op wielen.

CitizenLab ging aan de haal met de prijs voor beste Student Start-up, maar waar u het meest voor moet uitkijken is fintechbedrijf Birdee, dat werd bekroond als meest Disruptieve Start-up.

It was Jan's research at the Leuven University that triggered the idea with his co-founder Dirk use this technology to bring let computers communicate more naturally with human beings. They came up with a number of applications and developed the fundamentals.

The CoFoundry came on board the SmartSpoken ship bringing the necessary funds to further develop the technology into actual products. We also hooked up the team with a network of companies and clients involved in e-commerce. This brought more technical expertise to the table and allowed the team to work with actual clients to finetune the products and start selling.

Ticto makes security visible

Ticto makes security a matter for everyone on the premises with a smart, digital security badge. The badge randomly changes its visual image and colour after a set amount of time. Every unit that doesn’t fit the visual components of the majority of badges in a certain location, belongs to an unauthorized visitor.

Ticto founder Johan Vinckier created the product in order to make security a shared responsibility. At the moment he works alongside Maarten Van Speybroeck, Bart Vansevenant and Maarten Vandenbroucke, determined to grow the company and to add an extra value to the existing security systems. Over the last few years, Ticto perfected its innovative product prepared for a number pilot projects last year.
